Casa Ébanos

Located within Sierra Alta, one of Monterrey's most exclusive residential enclaves, Casa Ébanos emerges from the hills of the Sierra Madre Oriental, establishing a direct dialogue with the mountainous landscape that defines the region. The project understands the terrain not as a constraint, but as the fundamental element from which its architecture is shaped.

The steep topography and the site's irregular trapezoidal geometry informed a strategy of vertical growth. Rather than extending toward the street, the house ascends the natural slope, stepping upward through four levels that adapt to the terrain while maximizing the buildable area permitted by local regulations. This approach allows the residence to occupy the hillside with a measured presence, preserving its connection to the landscape while expanding the spatial possibilities of the home.

The volumetric composition unfolds through a subtle fan-like gesture that opens toward the most privileged views of the surrounding mountains. This movement not only frames the distant ridges, native vegetation, and rolling hills of Sierra Alta, but also reinforces privacy by directing the visual experience away from neighboring properties and toward the natural environment. As the residence expands outward, each space gains access to daylight, ventilation, and uninterrupted views, transforming the landscape into a permanent backdrop for daily life.

Conceived as a robust structure of concrete and steel, the house is defined by large spans and generous proportions. Free heights of 3.5 meters establish a sense of openness throughout the interiors, balancing the considerable depth of the floor plates and allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the living spaces despite portions of the residence being embedded within the mountainside.

Arrival is conceived as a gradual sequence. At the lowest level, a private garage accommodates a collection of vehicles alongside a security pavilion. From there, a rising approach leads to a motor court centered around a circular fountain and sculptural bonsai. Protected beneath a generous canopy, residents and guests enter the house through the lobby that serves as the threshold between landscape and architecture.

A sculptural spiral staircase connects all levels of the residence, extending from the lowest floor to the rooftop level beneath a large skylight. Designed as a vertical source of light, the skylight introduces daylight into the deepest portions of the home. Suspended steel elements filter and redirect sunlight toward the warm metallic surfaces surrounding the stair, transforming the circulation core into a luminous centerpiece while preventing glare within the adjacent family spaces. A private elevator offers an alternative route through the residence.

The social level is organized as a continuous open-plan environment where kitchen, dining room, living room, wine cellar, bar, and study coexist within a fluid spatial composition. A sequence of decorative partitions crafted from alternating materials, including stone and metal, provides subtle definition without interrupting visual continuity. Throughout the floor, the interior extends toward a generous terrace overlooking the mountains. Outdoor lounges, gathering spaces, and a fully equipped outdoor kitchen transform the terrace into an extension of the home's social life.

The upper level is dedicated to private living. Each bedroom is carefully positioned to capture exclusive views of the surrounding landscape. The primary suite includes separate dressing rooms, a spacious bathroom, and direct access to a private terrace overlooking the mountains. Secondary and guest suites each feature their own walk-in closets and private bathrooms, ensuring comfort and independence for every occupant.

A family lounge, fitness room, sauna, and outdoor family patio complement the residential program, creating spaces dedicated to wellness, leisure, and everyday life. Together, these elements establish a residence where luxury is not expressed through excess, but through space, light, privacy, and an intimate relationship with the extraordinary landscape of Sierra Alta.
